Publishing Imprint News and Opportunity

You may have seen our recent news, that my husband, Gareth L. Powell, and I are forming our own publishing imprint. Our first book will be an anthology compiling short stories by prominent science fiction, fantasy, and horror authors. The anthology theme will represent these genres, and as such represent what the imprint will publish. We will also be publishing thriller/mystery books eventually as well.

Our goal is to raise money to help pay each author for their story, pay for cover art, and pay for production costs. We are in the early fundraising days for this, and we are currently using Ko-Fi to reach our goals.

Timeline:

1. Invite authors to submit short stories (this is happening now; some have already submitted)
2. Pay cover artist for the book cover.
3. Buy ISBNs and barcodes for paperback, hardback, and ebook.
4. Have authors submit short stories by August 31, 2024.
5. Read and accept short stories.
6. Send contracts to authors and pay all authors in September, 2024 or sooner.
7. Announce final table of contents/list of authors by October, 2024.
8. Begin preorders for book.
9. Release book February 11, 2025 (tentative).

As we do not have a final page count yet, we do not have a final dollar amount for the cost of the paperback and hardback, but we offer the following incentives to backers regardless:

Become a Backer:

$5+: Your donation gets our heartfelt thanks and acknowledgement in the book.

$10+: Your donation gets our heartfelt thanks, acknowledgement in the book, and book swag such as art cards, bookmarks, etc.

$20+: Your donation gets our heartfelt thanks, acknowledgement in the book, and book swag such as art cards, bookmarks, etc., as well as a copy of the ebook on publication day.

$35+: Your donation gets our heartfelt thanks, acknowledgement in the book, a paperback copy of the book, and book swag such as art cards, bookmarks, etc.

$50+: Your donation gets our heartfelt thanks, acknowledgement in the book, as well as a hardback copy of the book and book swag such as art cards, bookmarks, etc. 

$100+: Your donation gets our heartfelt thanks, book acknowledgement, one copy of the book (your choice of format), book swag, and access to our anthology Discord server, as well as a writing class with Jendia Gammon or Gareth L. Powell.

$500+: Your donation gets our heartfelt thanks, book acknowledgement, one copy of the book (your choice of format), book swag, Discord server access, writing class, and you will be named/featured as a character in our next book (Jendia's and Gareth's). Exclusive naming limited to four backers only.

We anticipate adding more special perks over time for different donation levels. These would be retroactive as well; for example, if you donated at a level above those listed and we added a special perk for that level later, you would receive the perk(s) for the new level. I would like to host special Zoom calls featuring some of the authors, an online book launch Zoom party in February, and other incentives.
