January 2025 Newsletter

Happy New Year, everyone! 2025 is starting out with all sorts of fun news, so let's get into it...

January 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to 2025 and my monthly newsletter! Except for breaking news, I am no longer sharing weekly updates. More frequent, personal, and behind-the-scenes posts and exclusive news can be followed via my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/jendiagammon

The holiday "break" has been a delight, very busy, and it's been a joy to hang out with my teens while they're out of school. We've watched shows, played games, gone shopping, made treats, and generally have been having the best time! I've baked and cooked all sorts of things, and mastered some new recipes while perfecting classic ones. I've gone for walks, and met many animals during them.

Like the quiet roots working hard unseen below ground, winter has not been a time of stillness in my writing world whatsoever.

In case you missed it, I had the Doomflower cover reveal for this April 2025 Heathers/Mean Girls meets Day of the Triffids/The Thing style horror romcom. Go see the gorgeous cover and learn more about the book!

Doomflower Preorders and Book Signing!

You can now preorder Doomflower directly from Encyclopocalypse Publications, the publisher:

Doomflower
by Jendia Gammon The meanest teen queen in high school might be the world’s only chance against killer plants run amok! Camellia Dume is the meanest teen queen in her Malibu high school, a rich daddy’s girl thanks to her father’s elaborate scams. But she might be the only hero for humanity as an extraterrestrial mutation sends plants tearing across the country and through people in bloody fashion.  As if that weren’t enough drama, Camellia just might meet her own personal match or worst enemy, in the new student Wray, as sparks fly and opposites attract. Only by working together can they uproot a deadly conspiracy that may have torn Camellia’s family apart.  Think HEATHERS meets MEAN GIRLS meets DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS and THE THING: gory, horrific, but hilariously so. Perfect for fans of Grady Hendrix.

General online preorders should start to roll out any day.

Awards Eligibility Post for 2024

Here's a list of my fiction published in 2024, for awards consideration for science fiction, fantasy, horror, and fiction generally. These were all short fiction for a change. You can see it all listed in my dedicated blog post. There might be some stories you missed, so do take a look! Thank you.

First Anthology Update via Stars and Sabers Publishing

I'm beginning to send out anthology author copies for Of Shadows, Stars, and Sabers, starting with the U.S. authors and expanding internationally. This is also a good trial run for the February delivery of crowdfunding deliveries to those who supported the book. We have some logistics to figure out for those, and a nail-biting wait from the distributor for the hardcovers. I think the holidays really made this a challenging time for those. I do have paperbacks about to ship out, and need to order more. They don't take as long. I haven't actually even seen the hardcovers yet, but I have to say the paperbacks are gorgeous. And it's really heartwarming to see the authors who contributed start to share the joy of receiving their printed copies.

The paperback edition for Of Shadows, Stars, and Sabers, out February 11, 2025 via Stars and Sabers Publishing.

Meanwhile, YOU can preorder your own copies of this wonderful book! They publish February 11th. Head here for some links (by no means all, as they're still rolling out, but several are here):

Writing Update

On New Year's Eve, I delivered the finished manuscript for The Secret of the Sapphire Sentinel (autumn 2025 release via Android Press), the sequel to The Inn at the Amethyst Lantern mentioned above. Next, I pivot to finish the Appalachian weird horror novella, Godfestation (2026) with Sley House Publishing. And I'm pretty sure I'll have edits for my first dragon fantasy novel in a trilogy, The Vale of Seven Dragons (2026) sometime in the new year.

I was also just invited to take part in a cool short fiction project this year, delighted me. I'll say more about that after contracts are signed. I'm pleased to work on more short stories in between novels.

Meanwhile, I'm seeking a publisher for a light fantasy and science fiction collection of mine, which I think is a lot of fun, and full of generally hopeful stories to transport you.

There's another wee little thing I got an offer a contract for, which I immediately sent to my entertainment lawyer for review (I do not have a literary agent, so all my new book contracts go to my lawyer for review and editing). If all works out, this will be the NINTH book you get from me in the coming few years, to start with. (I think you'll get a couple more if all goes to plan). It's the "TBA Secret Project" listed in the image below, expected Spring 2026.

What can I tell you about this? Not much, officially, until I sign the contract and the deal announcement is made publicly by the publisher. I can tell you it enters me into a branch of writing I've been wanting to do for YEARS. I'm extremely happy about it, and I know you're all going to freak out when you hear what it is, because it is SO much fun. And once everything is signed, I'll also tell you the funny story of how it came about.

So here's what's ahead so far. I've got horror, thriller, science fiction, fantasy, Appalachian tales...a bit of something for everyone! What can I say? I love to write what I love to read and watch.

And that wraps up my current news! I'll have lots to share in the weeks ahead, and may have to break the monthly newsletter rule to share it all...but I promise it'll be fun stuff that's worth it.

Wishing you the best year you've ever had, filled with adventures you want, quiet moments to savor, and much joy. See you soon!

Write on!
