News: Weird Tales Magazine Art Acceptance!

Hi all,

I said I wouldn't pop back in this December unless I had some news...and I do, so here I am!

An original mixed media piece of art by me has been accepted for an upcoming Weird Tales Magazine! This will be part of their Nightmare Gallery. I'm so honored to be part of this! Many thanks to Jonathan Maberry for the acceptance. Two pieces were under consideration, and the second was much weirder and so it appealed to Jonathan more for the magazine. (A lucky friend of mine gets the other, unchosen piece as a gift; it's quite pretty.)

This marks the second time my art will be published officially. The first time: this year, in my novel, Atacama, there are 36 interior illustrations by me.

My art and writing have always been intertwined, as I used to illustrate my stories when I was younger. I still make a lot of art for my stories these days, but that's never really been published. I became good enough at art that I won several awards and an art scholarship for college, but I ended up going into science. No regrets there (I have a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology). Science is the third piece of my triple helix: writing, art, science.

As for Weird Tales, this art will be formatted for the interior of the magazine and hopefully will inspire some stories from other writers. Maybe, one day, I'll have my own story in Weird Tales. But for now, I'm thrilled to have the art out in the world. I hope it leads to more work. Commissions are open, too, if you want to inquire about bespoke art. Analog art is my specialty, and I feel like the time is right to celebrate it. Certainly in this awful year, it's helped me to make it.

At some point in the near future, I will also offer a sale of original art and prints of it in my Ko-fi shop. Also, my Patreon tier members get art gifts from me occasionally, if you're considering joining.

Okay! There's a LOT going on behind the scenes I can't talk about, but January will have many announcements to share, so be on the lookout for those in 2 weeks. Happy holidays!

Write on!
