Special Edition: Help Appalachia

Hi all,

I'm heartbroken and stunned by the extraordinary devastation to Southern Appalachia, where I'm from. Finally hearing from some family and friends, who are okay, but missing essential services.

THIS IS THE WORST DISASTER FOR SOUTHERN APPALACHIA IN OUR LIFETIMES.

Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, and parts of northern Georgia and southwestern Virginia are severely affected. Asheville, a vibrant city, is in major trouble; several small towns were quite literally wiped away from massive flash floods and mud flows.

The national news quickly pivoted on the front pages to everything else but our region, which has often been ignored, ridiculed, and disrespected. Appalachia is a diverse and wonderful place and does not deserve this neglect.
