What's in a Week - Vol. 34

Nebula Award Voting and BSFA Voting Open, How to Add Me to the Locus Award List, What I'm Watching and Reading, etc.

I'm a Nebula Award Finalist!

If you missed the news, it's official: I am a Nebula Award finalist! Read all about the nomination, what it means, about THE INN AT THE AMETHYST LANTERN, and what happens next on my blog! Voting for the Nebula Awards is now officially open, so if you are a SFWA member, I'd love your vote. I'm alongside some absolutely stellar writers, and just honored and grateful as can be. Thank you to those who nominated me!

You can order THE INN AT THE AMETHYST LANTERN from anywhere (Bookshop.orgBarnes and NobleAmazonKoboWaterstones, your local seller, etc.).

Here's my Nebula Award logo pie I baked on Pi Day (3.14, get it?) which was the day the announcements went out. It's a blueberry and Meyer lemon curd pie with a shortbread crust, all from scratch by me, and it's delish!

Nominate Me for a Locus Award!

Vote in the Locus Awards

The Locus Awards are prestigious genre awards hosted by Locus Magazine each year. You can write in my works at this link.

Eligible works:

Collection: The Shadow Galaxy: A Collection of Short Stories and Poetry (J. Dianne Dotson, Trepidatio Publishing)
Short Story: "Copper" (Jendia Gammon, Interzone 295)
Younger Fiction: The Inn at the Amethyst Lantern (J. Dianne Dotson, Android Press)

Thank you so much!

My New Novel: ATACAMA

In case you missed the news, my newest book is ATACAMA, and you can read all about my first horror/thriller novel (with some sci-fi!) here on my blog. In just over a year, you'll have this book in your hands. I might be able to do a cover reveal at StokerCon this June in San Diego.

NEW: I'll be making little illustrations for each chapter header, using my own art in a novel for a change! I'm thrilled about that.

BSFA Finalist - Twice!

If you missed the news, here's a post on my blog. I'm a two-time finalist for the British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) awards! A tremendous honor and a first for me. Thank you to all who voted in the longlist and got me here! VOTING IS OPEN and continues until EasterCon. Thank you for your votes for best fiction for younger readers and best short story! I appreciate you!

Upcoming Events!

Now that my Nebula Award Finalist news is out, I can share my early-mid 2024 events schedule with you as it stands so far. This promises to be a fun Spring and Summer!

Bid on My Original, Cute Hedgehog Art for a Good Cause!

Do you like hedgehogs and original art? Then you'll be pleased to know you still have time to bid on this watercolor illustration I made.

Library Fundraiser

My hometown library in East Tennessee seeks a renovation and needs our help. Let’s get this Appalachian community supported! Without it, I wouldn’t be the writer I am today. I want all generations from now forward to have a library they can be proud of. Donate here and feel free to share.

On the Screen

Continuing my CONSTELLATION watch, and in the latest episode, we get a point of view from the other astronaut, Paul...and it's a riveting entry to the series. Two episodes left for this season, and who knows what will happen!

On the Page

I finally got HELEN OF WYNDHORN by the tremendous trio of Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Matheus Lopes. I LOVE IT!! And oh my GOD the art is incredible. Can't wait for the next issue!

Writing Update

Okay, if you've made it this far, kudos and thank you. The week started slowly and ended with a bang: the Nebula Award news, several editors wanting to look at my two complete manuscripts, and short story writing and submission. I also made notes for some new projects and have been switching between my three new novels in progress. I plan to write as many short stories this year as I can, and find publishers for them.

The Week Ahead

Gareth is back in England, so it's back to routines for me. I have a work deadline for my science writing gig, and this one involves Women's History Month in life science history. I have some artwork to complete (not just the illustrations for ATACAMA's chapters, but art cards and gifts). Note: commissions are open! Meanwhile, Spring begins this coming week in the Northern Hemisphere (Happy Autumn to my Southern Hemisphere followers!) and I'm happy to see all the flowers and animals creating a vibrant, living tapestry here.

Wishing you all a lovely week ahead.

Thank you, always, for your support.

Write on!
