What's in a Week - Vol. 60
Autumn is here at last!
Celebrating the First Day of Fall
I'm of course delighted that my favorite season is here! I spent the cool, foggy autumn morning in LA at Echo Park, a fun neighborhood with Echo Park Lake and one of my treasured local bookstores, Stories Books and Cafe.
The cardamom bun is worth the drive alone!
Stars and Sabers Updates
We got the final short story for Of Shadows, Stars and Sabers, so the book will soon go off to the proofreader.
ABC Hobart interviewed our author, Eugen Bacon, about her novella we're publishing and other works:
We hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month interview between our authors P.A. Cornell and Pedro Iniguez:
On the Screen
This week's TV rotation included Slow Horses, Evil, and The Rings of Power, which are all great choices for autumn shows, by the way!
On the Page
In addition to recent fiction I've mentioned, I'm also reading and enjoying a non-fiction book that's perfect for fall: What an Owl Knows by Jennifer Ackerman. A couple mornings ago, I was up before 5 AM, and I was rewarded by hearing the low call of a great horned owl. I'm a big fan of all birds, owls among my most favorite alongside parrots and ravens.
Writing Update
Not much in the way of quality writing this week, as I've been in editing and revisions mode. I did write some rather fraught teen drama scenes in my sequel, The Secret of the Sapphire Sentinel. That was entertaining!
This week is a science writing deadline week, and I'll also work on the sequel above as well as moving forward on some of my other works in progress.
I'm told we'll get the Atacama cover reveal in mid-October.
Meanwhile, I got an awesome cover quote for the cover of Doomflower from the writer of one of my favorite films, so that had me completely stoked!
The Week Ahead
Work deadlines, autumn walks, change-of-season house cleaning, and some autumn bakes are in order for this week. I'm so relieved to be in my favorite time of year.
Wishing you all a great week ahead!
Write on!
